Contentful to Webflow: when to move your marketing site

Decide which content belongs in Webflow by mapping its owners, relationships, and every application or channel that uses it.

A Contentful to Webflow migration should start with an architecture decision. If Contentful supplies content to a product, mobile app, documentation site, and marketing website, moving the marketing pages does not automatically justify moving every content source.

Map who edits each content type and where it is consumed. That makes it possible to choose between moving the marketing site, keeping the current stack, or using a split setup with clearly defined ownership.

Identify what marketing needs to control

List the changes that currently require engineering: a new campaign page, another section in a product page, a content field, or a change to the navigation. Then distinguish content-editing needs from application behavior.

Webflow may suit the marketing layer when the priority is managing visual pages and reusable sections. Keeping a headless architecture can make sense where the same structured content feeds several applications or tightly integrated product experiences. Test the actual requirements instead of treating either approach as universally better.

Follow the relationships, not just the entries

For each content type, record fields, references, embedded entries, assets, locales, URL rules, and validation requirements. A product entry may reference features, customer stories, pricing information, or documents used elsewhere.

Contentful provides CLI tools for exporting content and models. An export is a source for transformation; it is not an automatic conversion into a Webflow site. Rich text, references, and layout rules need an explicit destination.

Compare three practical paths

  • Move the marketing site: appropriate when its content and publishing can be owned independently.
  • Keep the current architecture: appropriate when shared content and application requirements outweigh the publishing benefit.
  • Split the architecture: potentially useful when marketing needs autonomy but shared data must remain authoritative elsewhere.

A split setup needs a named source of truth for each field. Decide how updates arrive, what happens when synchronization fails, and which team fixes it. Duplicate editable copies without ownership rules create a maintenance problem.

Use a representative pilot

Choose a page that includes the hard parts: references, media, localization, and a real conversion journey. Recreate its content model and approved layout, then ask the future editor to make the changes they perform most often.

Write down what worked, what required custom handling, and what could not be transferred cleanly. Check the applicable Webflow plan limits against the actual inventory before expanding the build. The pilot should answer a decision, not merely produce an attractive sample.

Scope the move around the boundary

Be explicit about what stays in Contentful, what moves, and which integrations remain. Include content reconciliation, URL mapping, editor training, and release ownership in the scope.

Bring a content-model export and a list of consuming applications to Beqi's migration assessment. We can review the marketing-site boundary and identify what needs proof before committing to a full move.
